Huanbo Lyu (he/him)

Ph.D. student

About

Huanbo graduated from a joint programme between the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) and the Queen Mary University of London (QM) with a BEng in e-Commerce Engineering with Law. His final year dissertation was titled 'Mind Controlled Robot'.

After the BEng, he changed his interest to artificial intelligence and completed an MSc in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning from the University of Birmingham (UOB). His master dissertation was titled 'Multi-objective optimization for building space utilization'.

Following this, he kept researching this topic. Now, he is a PhD student in the School of Computer Science, UOB and supervised by Shuo Wang (CS), Fabian Spill (Mathematics), James Andrews (Mathematics), and Daniel Herring (Mathematics). He is co-funded by Siemens and his College.

Huanbo is always open to collaborations in applying machine learning, please feel free to contact him or discuss his topic.

Research Themes

Research Projects

His research interests focus on building space usage (industrial project), integrating mathematical modeling, machine learning, optimization to solve problems. Currently, his project is based on data obtained from IoT sensors and focuses on reducing costs (such as energy cost), optimizing space usage in buildings, and satisfying occupancy comfort.
